Moldova is one of the main countries in the world for human trafficking. The number of victims is estimated at around 60,000 and only a few are identified and taken care of. The victims suffer from many different physical and mental health problems, and encounter difficulties with reintegration. MdM has raised awareness among a large network of professionals and in the north of the country offers multidisciplinary support.

ACTIVITIES

MdM is raising awareness of the phenomenon of human trafficking in schools and amongst vulnerable adolescents and is organising a regional media campaign. Following the training of and awareness-raising amongst professionals, a network has been set up to identify victims.

Multidisciplinary care has been organised for the victims to ensure provision of medical, psychological, social and legal support, as well as professional help towards reintegration. This is provided via a network of national and local partners and the intervention of two mobile teams.

All these activities are carried out in partnership with local organisations, under the umbrella of the national referral system for victims of human trafficking.

RESULTS

170 schoolchildren, adolescents in institutions and students received information, 380 professionals were trained and support was provided to 200 new cases of human trafficking.
